New Release: 'Heartbreaking' is out now.

This song came from the moment my own heartbreak from a breakup was compounded by seeing someone I loved hurting from the same loss. The pain was already there for me. The empty space. The quiet nights. The memories that cut. But then I saw them hurting too. I saw the way the same loss was carving into them. I saw the way their heart was breaking in ways I could not reach. And that hurt worse than my own hurt.

I had my own pain. The silence. The memories. The ache of what was gone. But watching them carry the same pain . . seeing them try to hold it together, seeing their eyes change, seeing their silence grow heavier . . broke my heart all over again. Loving someone means their hurt echoes in you. When their heart breaks from the same thing that broke yours, yours breaks twice.

The Weight of Double Heartbreak

Double heartbreak is not louder. It is heavier. You feel your own loss, and then you feel theirs on top of it. You see the light dim in their eyes and feel it dim in your own. You hear the silence in their voice and feel it in your own chest. You want to take their pain, but you cannot. You want to fix it, but you cannot. All you can do is be there. All you can do is let your heart break with theirs. All you can do is carry both pains at the same time.

The "Still Here" Perspective

I have learned I can only control how I hold both hurts. I cannot erase the breakup. I cannot erase their pain. I definitely cannot erase the way seeing them hurt reopened mine. But I can sit with both. I can let the pain exist without letting it define me. I can let the heartbreak breathe without letting it own me. I can still choose to keep going, even when the heart feels broken twice.

If you have ever felt your own heart break from a loss . . and then felt it break again watching someone you loved hurt from the same loss . . if you have ever carried double heartbreak because their pain became yours . . this song is for you.

Give it a listen wherever you stream music.
